Song Details from the album New Beginnings

Tom Shader

Here’s another Jagger/Richards tune.  We really didn’t set out to be a Rolling Stones cover band, really.  Anyway,Doug always liked the tune and one day started playing it pretty conventionally and Julie sang along.  After a couple of verses, she goes “no way.”  Since Doug liked the song, he was not about to give up.  So he had to come up with something different, fast.  So he started playing a new rhythm that seemed to have a nice groove to it.  Then, when we got to the chorus, something new and strange had to happen.  And it did.  And, just to add insult to injury, we decided that a pedal steel would work perfectly.  So, we got Dave Zirbel to add just the right touch.  And, when discussing the bass part, Tom asked what he should play.  He said he could play a lot of notes.  We said play as many notes as you can.

Dead Flowers

Lyrics:

Well when you're sitting there in your silk upholstered chair
Talking to some rich folk that you know
Well I hope you won't see me in my ragged company
Cause you know I could never be alone

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding And
I won't forget to put roses on your grave

Well when you're sitting back in your rose pink cadillac
Making bets on Kentucky Derby Day
Ah, I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the queen of the underground
And you can Send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the US mail
Say it with dead flowers in my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave
No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
